Southwest Maker Fest (SWMF) Announces The N-Compass Village
and Calls for Entry @ SWMF 2017

Deepening the learning process through integrative, creative experiences

To participate in planning N-Compass fill out the main exhibitor invitation.

Southwest Maker Fest (SWMF) is a collaborative one-day festival and community of volunteering makers seeking to achieve the vision of a connected community, empowered by creativity.

The Southwest Maker Fest mission is to celebrate, engage, and inspire the maker in each of us.

SWMF will be hosting its 4th annual event on March 11th 2017! This year we are adding an exciting new component specifically designed to support Arizona’s educational community and inform education advocates. The N-Compass Village is intended to integrate creative experiences into the curriculum in order to increase engagement, enhance active student-centered processes and deepen student learning.

This will be the first concept village of SWMF with a plan to add additional concept villages in future years.

This initiative is founded on a deep belief in the decades-long movement to integrate art and other creative experiences into school learning, and inspired by the recent documentary film, Most Likely to Succeed, which illustrates an exemplary model.

N-Compass @ SWMF 2017
Deepening the learning process through integrative, creative experiences

The concept for the N-Compass Village is to be a place where all people of our Regional community can experience hands-on making, integrated with every subject area taught in our local educational systems.

Teachers will be able to achieve Professional Development credits by visiting and interacting with our N-Compass Village. Attendees will receive over 16 lesson plans that they will have a chance to witness in person, connected to subjects and standards, and age appropriate by grade.

Collaboration:
N-Compass will be SWMF’s first prototype Village Concept, made tangible by our community! A village offers us a focal area and framework for a gathering of people collaborating to reach a common goal, in a confined time and space, designed to make ideas tangible!

The N-Compass exhibitors, speakers and workshops, and other hands-on activities, are all designed to support the projects goal and intended outcome: to integrate creative experiences into the curriculum in order to increase engagement, enhance active student-centered processes, and deepen student learning.

To make this idea tangible, we are seeking collaborative, community-minded exhibitors of all ages. The successful applicants will work with us in an laboratory environment to develop a working example to be interactively showcased at N-Compass Village. The combined experiences offered at N-Compass Village will exemplify our SWMF vision, a connected community, empowered by creativity. They will also enable our community to understand SWMF mission: to celebrate, engage, and inspire the maker in each of us.
